As its name suggests, the Painfully Simple resource pack is definitely a simple pack for Minecraft, featuring a very low resolution of 8x. It well simplifies a lot of many textures throughout your world, which may be hard to believe since the vanilla textures are already so simple and basic that most players consider them ugly. But, this resource pack proves that simple packs do not necessarily need to look bad at all. In fact, if you have ever tried the original Sonic games back on Sega Genesis, the Painfully Simple might look really familiar to you.
That is because of the checkerboard motif you will see throughout Minecraft world with this pack installed. Actually, checkers are everywhere, from slabs, fences to gates and trapdoors, grass blocks to stone bricks, and so on. Everything seems to be all painted over with some checker gradient paint, and that can be enough to make you a bit dizzy for the first time loading up a world with this Painfully Simple resource pack installed. Well, this is maybe the part that’s supposed to be painful in the pack. But it is temporary; as getting over that initial discomfort, you will be ready to go.
It is actually not that bad if you are running around on the ground or in the earth. If you have flying on or you are playing on Creative, then a bird’s eye view of your world will likely make you feel sick a lot. The Painfully Simple pack does nothing to change the mobs’ appearance, which could really become a good thing as they’d probably also be all decked out in a checker motif.
